A brand’s values are its guiding principles. They shape the way it behaves, and are reflected in everything from the way it communicates, to the products and services it provides.
There are many different ways to define what a brand value is. Here are a few examples:
The set of beliefs that guide how a company or organization behaves. These can be articulated as a set of principles that everyone in the company agrees on and lives by. (For example, Google’s values are “focus on the user and all else will follow”, “be fast”, “be bold”, “think big”.)
The qualities that make up a brand which customers/clients perceive and experience (for example Apple is often perceived as being premium/aspirational).
A promise made by a brand to its customers or stakeholders (for example Nike’s promise is to “bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete* in the world”).
How well a company lives up to its stated values – in other words, whether there is alignment between what the company says its values are, and how it actually behaves. This can be measured through things like employee satisfaction surveys.
